Fairfax County Police detectives from the Crash Reconstruction Unit determined that the vehicle that struck the tree was a 2001 Volvo S40, police said Thursday.
The Volvo was traveling south on River Bend Road, when it partially crossed the double-yellow line, according to police. At the same time, a vehicle was traveling north in the same area of River Bend Road and the Volvo apparently swerved to avoid hitting it, police said.
