UPDATE: Several neighbors think this is what you heard: NORAD Live-Fly Exercise Over the National Capital Region POSTPONED. Due to the forecasted inclement weather, Falcon Virgo (NORAD's monthly live-fly exercise) has been postponed 24 hours. Falcon Virgo is now scheduled from 12:00 a.m. to 02:00 a.m. and 04:10 a.m. to 05:00 a.m. on 14 April 2011.
NORAD is the North American Aerospace Defense Command, a joint command of the U.S. and Canada. Its operations center is at Cheyenne Mountain in Colorado.
Those Loud Night Noises. Several of the neighbors reported hearing loud noises in the wee hours of Thursday morning. McLean Police Commander Capt. Steve Thompson sent along this note when we asked him about it:

"I have no information on it. I can tell you that I was awakened at the same time and they were military aircraft. It was probably a training exercise, which are typically run overnight when there is no civilian airliner traffic in or out of Dulles and National."
Search of Penny. A four-month-old golden-haired Terrier remains missing from its home on Forest Villa Lane. She ran away from home morning and headed for Pimmit Run Creek. Volunteers continue to put up posters in the Linway and Chesterbrook neighborhoods. If you see Penny please call !!703-915-1958!!
