Severe Thunderstorm Watch Issued Monday for Northern Virginia

The National Weather Service has issued an alert for severe weather Monday afternoon.

The entire Washington, D.C., metro region is under a severe thunderstorm watch Monday afternoon through 10 p.m., according to the National Weather Service.

A severe thunderstorm watch means conditions are favorable for severe weather including rain, lightning and high winds.

There are several severe thunderstorm warnings west of the metro D.C. area Monday.

Temperatures Monday are in the mid-90s with heat index temperatures reaching 100 degrees and higher.
