Community Groups Oppose, But Sunrise Senior Living Pushes Ahead with Plans to Build Facility

Company has pushed a public hearing before county Planning Commission to September.

McLEAN, VA -- Sunrise Senior Living continues to push forward with its plans to build a facility in McLean, in the face of opposition from the McLean Citizens Association and other homeowner associations in the area near where the company hopes to build.

Sunrise Development wants to construct and operate a medical care facility on 3.7 acres at 1988 Kirby Road, the northwest corner of Kirby Road and Westmoreland Street. Currently there is a church on the property, built in 1963.

The McLean Citizens Association voted unanimously July 6 to oppose the plan, citing concerns about traffic and the size of the building as well as its suitability for the residential area.

But that opposition doesn't seem to have fazed Sunrise Senior Living. The company said, in a statement released to Patch:

"We continue to take McLean citizens’ input to heart and recently requested a deferral of our Planning Commission public hearing until September 28. We will use this time to make additional improvements to our application. Sunrise thanks the community for their support and ongoing feedback."
