Suspect Sentenced in Armed Robberies, Including One at McLean Sandwich Shop
Burke resident was wearing a mask and held a gun on or fired at employees at six restaurants and stores he robbed, police said.
Larry Pyos, Jr., of Burke, was convicted late Thursday by a federal jury on charges related to multiple armed robberies of businesses in Falls Church and Fairfax County, including a robbery May 9 of a Subway sandwich shop in McLean, the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of Virginia announced Friday. The armed robbery in McLean was the last robbery in his six-month crime spree across Northern Virginia.
Pyos was arrested two days later, May 11, in an early morning raid at his home in Burke, where federal agents in full body armor with automatic weapons showed up at his home, a neighbor told WJLA-TV. Employees at the holdups were able to get the license plate number of the getaway car which led authorities to Pyos' home in Burke. A federal affidavit showed a photo of the suspect holding a shotgun in one hand and a handgun in the other, taken from his Facebook page.
Pyos will be sentenced on Jan. 13, 2017. On August 11, Pyos was charged in an indictment with conspiracy, armed robbery, using firearms in committing those robberies and being a felon in possession of firearms. In two of the robberies, he fired shots at employees, the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Eastern District said.
