There's Still Time To Catch Fall Festivals In McLean

Fall offers opportunities to have fun outside in the McLean area, including trunk-or-treats, Dogtoberfest at Shipgarten and more.

MCLEAN, VA — Fall is a great time to get outside in McLean and Fairfax County and take in the rich offering of festivals.

The changing colors of autumn provide a scenic background for fall and harvest festivals, which have contests ranging from apple bobbing and pumpkin carving to lumberjack contests and Halloween parades. Fall is also the season for corn mazes, pumpkin patches and apple orchard visits.

Here are a few festivals and events in McLean and around Fairfax County worth putting on the calendar:

  • Fairfax Fire Station Open House: Saturday, Oct. 15, from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. All Fairfax County Fire & Rescue Stations will be open for the public to tour the station, learn about fire safety, and meet the firefighters in your community.
  • Halloween on the Green: Saturday, Oct. 15, from 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m., on the Vienna Town Green, 144 Maple Ave. East, Vienna, VA. Fall family fun including crafts, games, moon bounces, pumpkin decorating and more.
  • Fairfax County Trunk or Treat: Wednesday, Oct. 19, from 6-8 p.m, at the Fairfax County Government Center, 12000 Government Center Parkway, Fairfax. Go "Trunk-To-Trunk" in a family-friendly atmosphere. Register to participate.
  • Dogtoberfest at Shipgarten: Saturday, Oct. 22, 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. Shipgarten, 7581 Colshire Dr., McLean, VA. Continue the Oktoberfest fun with your furry friends. Visit Shipgarten for Dogtoberfest! Various rescue groups will be bringing dogs that are up for adoption. Multiple pet-owned vendors will set up, selling various treats, toys, clothes and more. Don't forget about the 50+ beers to sample. So bring your family, friends, along with your pup(s) and on Saturday, October 22 for cold bier, delicious food and events going on throughout the day for all ages.

  • Trunk-or-Treat @ Lewinsville Presbyterian Church: Saturday, Oct. 22, 4 p.m. Lewinsville Presbyterian Church, 1724 Chain Bridge Rd., McLean, VA. Come have a scary good time at the Trunk-or-Treat event. Come in costume and collect treats from the decorated cars in the church parking lot. Plus, families will enjoy carnival games, pumpkin decorating, ice cream, and a haunted puppet show on the grounds of the church. To participate with a decorated trunk, registration is required.
  • Halloween Spooktacular at Mosaic: Sunday, Oct. 30, from 9 a.m.-8 p.m., District Avenue, Fairfax, VA. Trick-or-treat at stores throughout the Mosaic District. Shop at the Farmfresh Farmers Market from 9 a.m.-2 p.m., and get your face painted at the Vienna Singing Princesses glamour tent from 2-7 p.m. in Strawberry Park. Enjoy a screening of The Addams Family, the 2019 animated feature, on the Mosaic's big screen.
