Traffic Stoppages Planned On I-495 In McLean For 495 NEXT Project
Four nights of traffic stoppages will start Thursday on the ramps connecting to I-495 in the McLean area as part of the 495 NEXT project.
MCLEAN, VA — Four nights of intermittent traffic stoppages will start on Thursday on the ramps connecting Georgetown Pike and Interstate 495 south and at the intersection of Georgetown Pike and I-495 south as part of the 495 NEXT project, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation.
Contractors will be conducting traffic signal work in the areas as part of the project.
The stoppages, which may last up to 30 minutes each, will occur between midnight and 5 a.m. and will take place on the nights of Thursday, Aug. 17, Friday, Aug. 18, Monday, Aug. 21 and Tuesday, Aug. 22.

Wednesday, Aug. 23 will serve as a backup date if work gets delayed due to weather conditions, VDOT said.
Following each stoppage, the ramps and intersection will reopen to clear traffic before the next stoppage starts.

The I-495 Express Lanes Northern Extension, or 495 NEXT, project is extending the existing 495 Express Lanes from the Dulles Corridor interchange to the George Washington Memorial Parkway near the American Legion Bridge.
