Bridge Construction in Median of Leesburg Pike (Route 7) Will Close Spring Hill Road, Westpark Drive/Gosnell Road Intersections through End of Year; Multiple Overnight Closures and Detours Required
The large yellow-and-blue truss that has been constructing the aerial guideway in the median of Leesburg Pike (Route 7) in Tysons Corner is constructing the bridge over the Spring Hill Road intersection.
This requires the middle of the intersection to be closed between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 27 through Thursday, Dec. 29.
Thru traffic along both directions of Leesburg Pike (Route 7) still will be allowed, but for safety reasons, thru traffic on Spring Hill Road will not be allowed, and will be detoured by using Route 7.
There will be some nights over the next month when bridge crews will close both the Spring Hill Road and Westpark Drive/Gosnell Road intersections. Drivers should expect approximately 10- to 15- minute travel delays if traveling through this area during these closures, which are expected to last through the end of the year.
The truss will continue to move west toward the Dulles Toll Road (Route 267). Once the Spring Hill Road crossing is complete, the next intersection to be crossed will be Tyco Road/Westwood Center Drive, expected in early 2012.
The bridge construction over Westpark Drive/Gosnell Road is also expected to complete in early 2012. It is being constructed using ground-based cranes instead of the truss because of the intersection's width.
Specific closure information will be released daily until work is complete.
Police will be onsite during all closures. Motorists are urged to use extreme caution, and pay attention to signage. All work is weather-dependent and subject to change.
