Virginia Weather: Rain, Snow and Sleet in Forecast Tuesday Night

Cold temperatures and latest blast of wet weather will mean wintry mix for most of the region, according to the National Weather Service.

STERLING, VA — Rain, snow and sleet are forecasted for much of the area Tuesday night, according to the National Weather Service.

The forecast has the precipitation starting as rain before 10 p.m. and switching to a wintry mix or snow until early Wednesday.

No accumulation is expected in Northern Virginia, with the exception Leesburg and other communities in the far west and north of the region.

Manassas: A chance of rain, mixing with snow after 10pm, then gradually ending. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 31. Calm wind becoming northwest 5 to 8 mph after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 50%.

Fredericksburg: A chance of rain, mainly before 11pm. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 34. Calm wind becoming northwest around 5 mph after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 30%.

Woodbridge: A chance of rain before 10pm, then a chance of rain and sleet between 10pm and 1am, then a slight chance of snow and sleet after 1am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 32. Calm wind becoming northwest 5 to 8 mph after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 30%.

Fairfax: A chance of rain, mixing with snow after 10pm, then gradually ending. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 31. Light and variable wind becoming northwest 5 to 9 mph after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 50%.

Dulles International: A chance of rain before 10pm, then rain, snow, and sleet likely between 10pm and 1am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 30. Light and variable wind becoming northwest 5 to 8 mph after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 60%. Little or no snow and sleet accumulation expected.

Reston: A chance of rain before 10pm, then rain, snow, and sleet likely between 10pm and 1am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 30. Light and variable wind becoming northwest 5 to 8 mph after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 60%. Little or no snow and sleet accumulation expected.

Leesburg: A chance of rain and sleet before 10pm, then snow and sleet likely between 10pm and 1am. Cloudy, then gradually becoming partly cloudy, with a low around 31. Calm wind becoming northwest 5 to 8 mph after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New snow and sleet accumulation of less than a half inch possible.

Reagan National: A chance of rain before 10pm, then a chance of rain and sleet between 10pm and 1am, then a slight chance of rain, snow, and sleet after 1am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 34. Southeast wind 5 to 11 mph becoming northwest after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 50%.
