What's Open, Closed For July 4 Holiday In McLean

The Independence Day holiday will bring closures and various fireworks events to the region.

MCLEAN, VA — Americans will celebrate Independence Day with parades, barbecues, fireworks and other festivities. Many services will be closed or adjusted for the holiday.

The July 4 holiday falls on a Friday, so many workers will have a three-day weekend. Local government offices and others will close for the holiday, while transit and select other services will run on a modified schedule.

Great Falls 4th of July Fireworks offers family-friendly festivities starting at 6 p.m. at the Turner Farm at 925 Springvale Road in Great Falls. Enjoy a cornhole tournament, inflatable fun and food trucks. Fireworks will begin once it's dark at about 9 p.m.

Many people will be heading to D.C. for the big 4th of July Celebration on the National Mall. The National Park Service has posted a schedule of events, maps and other information online to make sure you're in the best spot to watch the 17.5-minute fireworks display when it starts at 9:09 p.m., weather-permitting.

Fairfax County government offices: Closed on July 4.

Fairfax County Public Schools: Schools are closed for the summer. July 4 is a holiday for all FCPS staff.

McLean Community Center: MCC will be closed on Friday, July 4 but will reopen Saturday, July 5, at regular business hours. Fairfax County Neighborhood and Community Services facilities will be closed from July 4 to 6.

Courts: Fairfax County General District Court, Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court, and Circuit Court will be closed on July 4.

Department of Motor Vehicles: Virginia DMV offices are closed on July 4, and some services are available online at dmv.virginia.gov.

Fairfax Connector: Fairfax Connector will run on a Saturday service schedule on July 4. The only routes that operate on Saturdays are 101, 109, 151, 152, 161, 162, 171, 308, 310, 321, 322, 371, 401, 402, 423, 463, 467, 558, 559, 574, 605, 615, 622, 630, 642, 651, 662, 672, 703, 721, 803, 901, 921, 924, 937, 950, 952, 954, 983, RIBS 1, RIBS 2, RIBS 3, RIBS 4 and RIBS 5.

Libraries: All Fairfax County Public Library locations are closed on July 4, including Reston Regional Library.

Metro: On July 4, Metrorail will be open from 6 a.m. to 2 a.m. During the afternoon, Metro will increase service to rush hour levels to get riders to July 4 events. Free fares will be offered after 5 p.m., and parking will be free all day. Metrobus will run on a Sunday schedule. Those heading to fireworks on the National Mall are encouraged to use stations other than Smithsonian, such as Metro Center, Foggy Bottom, Federal Triangle, Archives, Gallery Place, Judiciary Square , Union Station, L’Enfant Plaza, Capitol South and Federal Center SW. Park authority: Recreation centers in Fairfax County will be open from 5 a.m. to 4 p.m. on July 4, except George Washington Rec Center, which will be open from 6:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Drop-in child care will be closed. Colvin Run Mill and Sully Historic Site will be closed, as well as the E.C. Lawrence, Hidden Oaks, Hidden Pond and Huntley Meadows nature centers and Green Spring Gardens Horticultural Center and Historic House. See the park authority's website for more hours.

Post offices: Closed on July 4.

Trash and recycling: Fairfax County collection customers have regular collections on July 4. Residents with private service should contact their hauler for any changes. The I-66 Transfer Station and the I-95 Landfill Complex will closed on July 4.
