Woman Killed in Crash on GW Parkway Near McLean Exit
Northbound lanes closed to traffic

UPDATE 6:53 pm. A woman was killed Sunday afternoon when the SUV she was driving in the northbound lanes of the George Washington Parkway hit a tree south of the Route 123 exit.
A nine-year-old child who was with her suffered minor injuries, U.S. Park Police said.
The Northbound lanes of the George Washington Parkway are closed because of the accident.

A Patch editor who passed the scene said the car "was vertical up against the tree."
"It was smashed to pieces," she said. The car was up in the woods. It would been difficult to see without the police lights, she said because it was so far off the road.

U.S. Park Police, who patrol the parkway said the accident occurred shortly after 4 p.m. The police gave no information about the victim or the cause of the accident.
ORIGINAL STORY 6:30PM. WJLA-TV has reported that a woman has died in a crash on the George Washington Parkway when her vehicle hit a tree.
The accident occurred in the northbound lanes of Route 123 south of the Route 123 exit near the bridge over North Glebe Road. U.S. Park Police are handling the accident.
