Person In Custody After 13-Hour Standoff At Fort Belvoir Army Base

FORT BELVOIR, VA — A person was taken into custody Sunday following a 13-hour barricade situation at Fort Belvoir Army base in Fairfax County, according to authorities.

The incident, which began Sunday morning, was resolved peacefully before 3 p.m. and without any injuries.

The person taken into custody by special agents from the Department of the Army Criminal Investigation Division on Fort Belvoir, that agency said Monday in a news release. The suspect is a civilian dependent of a military member.

Fort Belvoir Military Police were notified Saturday about 10:45 p.m. of a domestic disturbance in the George Washington Village neighborhood on Fort Belvoir.

Because the standoff happened within exclusive federal jurisdiction, any charges will be brought by the United States Attorney’s Office.

WUSA9 reported that the situation was inside a home. Reporters from the TV station said military police and a military SWAT vehicle were in the area.

Video earlier Sunday showed an armored vehicle from the Fairfax County Police Department at the scene, FOX DC reported.

Responding agencies included the Army Criminal Investigation Division, the FBI, Fairfax County police, Virginia State Police, Prince William County Fire and Rescue, Fairfax County Fire and Rescue, Lorton Emergency Services and the Fairfax County Explosive Ordinance Division.

The FBI Washington Field Office and Fort Belvoir Army Community Service were providing victim assistance to support those affected.
