• George Washington's mansion reopens after $40M preservation (finance-commerce.com) — George Washington’s Mount Vernon mansion has reopened its first and second floors after a $40 million preservation project, giving local visitors fresh access to key rooms. Crews upgraded HVAC, repaired structural damage, and improved drainage, while archaeologists uncovered 18th-century artifacts. The cellar remains closed during restoration but is expected to reopen with a gala in fall 2026. 
• Fairfax leaders to honor police for response to 2021 attack on U.S. Capitol (ffxnow.com) — Fairfax County supervisors, including Mount Vernon District’s Dan Storck, have backed a proclamation honoring local police who helped restore order during the Jan. 6, 2021 U.S. Capitol attack. The measure, to be presented in January, will recognize Fairfax officers’ sacrifices and name any county residents among first responders who later died as a result of that day’s events.
