George Washington’s Mount Vernon to Extend Hours, Offer Special Activities During Presidential Inauguration
Make a stop at the other 'White House' Jan. 19-22 at Mount Vernon; presidential inauguration is Jan. 20.

FAIRFAX COUNTY, VA -- George Washington’s Mount Vernon will celebrate the next presidential inauguration with special activities for the entire family. From Jan. 19-22, Mount Vernon’s guests, ages 8 and older will have the unique opportunity to look for clues and solve puzzles in a scavenger hunt that includes a variety of locations across Washington’s beloved estate.
The inauguration of Donald Trump as the 45th president of the United States will take place on Friday, Jan. 20, in Washington, D.C.
In Mount Vernon, at the Ford Orientation Center, a display will feature forensically based life-sized figures of George Washington and others to illustrate Washington taking the oath of office. These wax figures will show Washington taking the oath of office on a replica 1789 Federal Hall balcony.

Buttons from Washington's inauguration will also be on view in the Orientation Center. Craftsmen made these commemorative buttons with patriotic designs and Washington's initials. The buttons were sold at Washington’s inauguration in New York City.
From Jan. 19-22, Mount Vernon will have extended hours from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Inauguration activities at Mount Vernon are included in general admission. Tip: Avoid the line and purchase an admission ticket in advance at mountvernon.org.
