Police Capture Suspect Wanted for Setting Woman on Fire

Police were on the lookout for Lewis Edward Reeder, who police say set woman, 64, on fire; she died overnight in the hospital.

FAIRFAX COUNTY, VA (update 10:30 p.m.) -- Police have captured the suspect they say set a woman on fire in the Mount Vernon area 12 days ago, Fairfax County Police announced Thursday night; the woman, Delores Williams, 64, died overnight at a local hospital, police said.

Lewis Edward Reeder, 56, of Alexandria, was arrested near Richmond Thursday thanks to a tip from a community member, according to Fairfax County Police. Reeder is currently in custody in Richmond and FCPD detectives will be following up with their investigation.

Reeder was Williams' boyfriend, according to police; he set her on fire and fled the scene 12 days ago and she died from her injuries, Fairfax County Police announced Thursday. Williams, 64, of Alexandria (Fairfax County) passed away overnight in the hospital.

Williams lived in the 4900 block of Keeler Court in the Mount Vernon area.

Detectives were searching for the suspect, wanted for aggravated malicious wounding, police said. Detectives said Reeder was driving a green 2001 Ford Taurus, four-door with possible Virginia license plates VPW1915.
