On Saturday at the Northern Region Championships the Mount Vernon girls track and field team advanced two individuals and one relay to the VHSL AAA State Championship next weekend.
Junior Jasmine Hill broke into the top 10 in the United States with her time of 1:15.89, to be ranked tenth in the country. She was the Northern Region runner-up in the 500 meter dash, losing only to the US #1 runner by 2/10ths of a second. This performance set a new school record for a 3rd time so far this season, and ranks her now 3rd in the state of Virginia in the AAA 500 meter dash.
Sophmore Alliyah Stevens took 4th place in the 55 meter hurdles to automatically advance to the State Championship.
The 4 by 400 meter relay team of sophmore Kaleigh Winner, Stevens, Hill and senior Bria Patnett took 4th place overall. The relay team had already automatically advanced to the State Championship based on their time two weeks ago at Virginia Tech.
The Mount Vernon High School girls track team will compete at the state meet on Friday.
