Police: Mount Vernon Resident Joseph Hardin Killed in D.C. Shooting

Police arrest suspect Cedric Spicer in connection with fatal shooting.

Mount Vernon resident Joseph Hardin, 30, was killed Saturday at about 1:15 a.m. in a shooting outside a nightclub in the 1900 block of Ninth Street NW, according to Washington, D.C. Metropolitan Police Department.

Detectives from the police department's Homicide Branch arrested and charged suspect Cedric Spicer in connection with the shooting, according to a news release.

On Saturday at 1:16 a.m., MPD Third District police responded to the scene to a report of a shooting. Officer Hugh Carew, a police spokesman, said Hardin and Spicer got into some kind of dispute inside 1920 DC, a nightclub and lounge a few blocks from the Howard University campus in an area known for nightlife, according to a report by WJLA. The argument continued onto the street, where Hardin was shot.

Police arrived at the scene and discovered an unconscious adult male suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services arrived on the scene and determined the victim had no signs of life, according to the press release. The victim was transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner and pronounced dead.

The victim was identified by police as Hardin, 30, of Mount Vernon. Further details about Hardin were not available.

Nearby patrol officers immediately apprehended the suspect. Spicer, 24, of Northwest Washington, D.C. was arrested and charged with Murder One while Armed in the shooting death of Hardin.
