ReReads Announces New Hours, New Programs

Re.Reads Books, Mount Vernon’s only independent bookstore, has announced a slew of changes for the new year.

Re.Reads Books now carries new titles in addition to used books, and has changed its name from reReads Used Books to Re.Reads Books to encompass the change. Owner Beth Conway has signed up with book distributor Ingram Books, and has started carrying their titles.

“Some of the new titles I have now are 'Turn Right At Machu Picchu' by Mark Adams, 'Peril in Paperback' by Kate Carlisle, and 'Tears of a Tiger' by Sharon Draper,” Conway said in an email to Patch. “The first is a travel book voted best of the year by the Washington Post and Men's Journal, the second is a mystery, and the third is a young adult book dealing with loss and guilt.”

Re.Reads recently signed on to be a host book store for World Book Night on April 23. The event is intended for people to share their love of reading with adults who do not have access to books. Those who want to participate apply to World Book Night and receive 20 copies of a book they select from a book list, free of charge. On April 23, the giver distributes those books to other adults in places including nursing homes and hospitals.

“It will be great if Northern Virginia has a large number of participants,” Conway said. “As a host book store I will have a couple of book club meetings as well as a reception for all givers.”

Re.Reads is also a collection site for the Riverside Elementary School Book Drive. Children’s books may be dropped off at Re.Reads before Jan. 18. The PTA will then distribute the books to every kid in the school.

Re.Reads has also announced new hours. The store will now close at 9 p.m. on Friday and Saturday nights.  Its daily operating hours have remained the same. For more information about reReads visit their website.
