Route 1 Grocery Stores Tuesday Afternoon: Storm Prep Rush 'Already Started'

Local stores are still stocked with items.

Mount Vernon and Greater Alexandria residents are getting a head start on preparing for Tueday night's storm.

Safeway located in Engleside Plaza has already seen a rush of customers picking up supplies in anticipation of the storm. Water, juice, and nonperishables are still available. According to a store employee, the freezers were broken but are now fixed and will be re-stocked later tonight.

The Shoppers at the Mount Vernon Plaza also has plenty of supplies available. According to a store employee, the rush has "already started."

Giant Food of Landover, Md. issued the following statement.

"In advance of a major weather event, customers typically purchase what we consider staple items – milk, bread, eggs, batteries, and bottled water."
