Suspect Accused of Assaulting Officer, Police Say
Officers attempted to take man into custody for a mental health assessment; he allegedly resisted and assaulted the officers, police said.

FAIRFAX COUNTY, VA -- Fairfax County Police say they have charged a local man with three counts of assault on a law enforcement officer after an incident Monday afternoon on Beekman Place.
Police say that at about 1:07 p.m. Monday, in the 8600 block of Beekman Place (see map below), police responded for a report of a man attempting to harm himself.
An investigation determined the man was possibly overdosing on medication, according to police. As officers attempted to take him into custody for a mental health assessment, the man allegedly resisted and assaulted the officers, police said. They were able to subdue him.

Kevin Anderson, 52, of Alexandria, was charged with three counts of assault on a law enforcement officer, police said. Anderson was taken to the hospital to be treated for the possible overdose. The officers were treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
