Teen Leads Police on Chase, Gets Bitten by K9

Police say the trouble started when the teen stole a phone and fled Thursday morning in Mount Vernon area.

FAIRFAX COUNTY, VA -- Fairfax County Police say a teenager was bitten by a police dog Thursday morning in the Mount Vernon area and faces multiple charges, after he led police on a chase that started with him stealing a phone.

Police say around 9:15 a.m. Thursday, a 35-year-old woman met the 17-year-old boy to sell a phone on Del Norte Court and Pole Road (see map below). The teen took the phone without paying and ran off on foot, according to police. Police officers responded and identified the suspect as a juvenile that was known to them. In addition, he was wanted in Fairfax County, as well as other jurisdictions, police said.

Officers in the area conducted a traffic stop and the suspect fled from the car. Several units responded, to include K9 and police helicopter Fairfax1, he was located by the police K9 and taken into custody. He was treated at a local hospital for minor injuries due to a dog bite.

The teen was then taken to the juvenile detention center, and charged with larceny. Other local warrants were served and additional charges could be pending, police said.
