The National Weather ServiceΒ has issued a tornado watchΒ for much of the greater Washington area, including Arlington, Fairfax, Prince William and Loudoun counties in Northern Virginia. The cities of Alexandria, Fairfax, Manassas and Manassas Park are also included.

A tornado watch means conditions exist that could produce a tornado. A tornado warning means a twister has been spotted.

The watch is in affect until 5 p.m. Monday.

The Capital Weather GangΒ reports a forecastΒ that includes a 30 percent chance of two or more tornadoes hitting the region and a 20 percent chance of a large tornado.

Northern Virginia could seeΒ heavy rains and possible thunderstormsΒ Monday afternoon thanks to the remnants of Tropical Storm Karen.
