Three age grade records fall at Jingle Jog 5K (dailypress.com) — A Newport News runner, 63-year-old George Fiscella, was among the top age‑graded performers at the Jingle Jog 5K, which capped the Colonial Road Runners Grand Prix season on the Virginia Capital Trail. Three age‑group records fell, Williamsburg-area runners dominated the overall standings, and participants praised the flat, festive course and strong Peninsula running community.
   

2. Long carrier deployment projects US strength, and exacts a cost (bostonglobe.com) — Newport News’ naval shipyard is slated to handle a major maintenance and refit for the aircraft carrier Ford early next year, but that work may be delayed by an extended deployment in the Caribbean. Military and political leaders warn that keeping the carrier at sea longer strains sailors, risks more accidents, and could drive up long‑term maintenance costs.
   

3. Pentagon: China Aims for 9 Aircraft Carriers by 2035 (newsmax.com) — Newport News’ shipyards are highlighted as two Ford-class aircraft carriers are currently under construction here, part of the Navy’s long-term plan to maintain its carrier edge over China. A new Pentagon report says China aims to field nine carriers by 2035, underscoring how crucial local shipbuilding remains to U.S. naval power and future strategy.
   

4. He came for a drug debt. He shot a barrage at the home. A Newport News teen was killed in a bedroom. (pilotonline.com) — A 15-year-old Warwick High School student was fatally shot while in a bedroom of his Midtown Newport News home after gunfire ripped through the house, and a 24-year-old Newport News man is now charged with second-degree murder. Court records describe dash cam footage, a drug debt dispute, and additional charges, while friends and family remember the teen’s kindness and love of gaming and music.
