Cross-Country: Oakton Boys Take First in Region Meet

The Oakton High boys cross-country team topped the rankings at the Northern Region meet Thursday with five runners landing in the top 20.

The Cougars had an average time of 15:54.

Michael McNamee ranked the highest for the Cougars with a 10th-place finish at a time of 15:46. With its seven best times, the team notched a score of 72, besting the second-place Robinson Rams by 15 points.

The girls found themselves in a three-way tie for second place, with the sixth-runner tiebreaker rule landing them in fourth place.

Oakton's Allie Klimkiewicz took second place overall with a time of 17:29. Hailey Dougherty and Briana Stewart also placed in the top 20 at seventh and 12th place, respectively.

Both teams will advance to the Virginia High School Leage state meet Nov. 12 at Great Meadows in The Plains.
