Dance: Oakton High Takes First in Pom, Kick

Soloists and teams from Oakton High and Flint Hill School competed in the 2012 East Coast Regional Dance Championship at West Springfield High on Sunday.

Oakton High's dance team placed first in both varsity pom and varsity kick, the only two categories in which they competed. The team also won an award for outstanding showmanship.

Flint Hill School had two soloists place second in their respective categories in Sunday's competition: Brittany Sweatman for hip hop and Taylor Kim for lyrical/contemporary. The school's varsity jazz team placed third.

The Oakton dance team is now preparing to compete at the National Dance Team Championship on Feb. 4 and 5 in Orlando, Fla.
