Diver Returns Lost Ring to Owner's Grandson

Oakton resident receives an unexpected birthday phone call regarding his late grandmother

John Entzminger never knew his family was missing a ring until a phone call from a stranger led to its return.

The Oakton resident received a call from a Florida diver who said he had retrieved his grandmother's 1923 class ring from Mississippi Woman's College, the Orlando Sentinel reports.

"It's a pretty amazing set of circumstances," Entzminger, 75, said to the Orlando Sentinel. "I had absolutely no idea that my grandmother lost it."

In July, diver Reed Banjanin, of The Springs, Fla., was 25 feet below the surface in The Springs when he found the gold ring engraved with the name Louise Hearst, Entzminger's grandmother's maiden name. He then used various social networking and research sites to track down Louise or her family.

He found Entzminger and called him on Dec. 17 — Entzminger's birthday. Entzminger received the ring on Christmas Eve.
