Girls Basketball: Cougars Overpower Bulldogs 57-20
Oakton High squelches Westfield's offense to maintain perfect record
The Oakton Cougars girls basketball team sailed to their 17th win of the season to maintain a perfect record.
The Cougars squelched Westfield's defense to come to a 57-20 victory Tuesday night at Oakton High School.
In the first period, the Cougars held the Bulldogs to two points and allowed five total in the first half while mounting 31 points of their own.

The Cougars continued to suppress the Bulldog offense in the third quarter, allowing six points and increasing their own point tally to 49. The Bulldogs had their best scoring run in the fourth with nine points, but couldn't come close to the undefeated Cougars in the end.
"We knew that they were very deliberate and played at a slower pace, so it was important for us to jump out early. I wouldn't have dreamed that we'd jump out that far, that fast," Coach Fred Priester said. "Our defense played very well tonight and was able to disrupt them a little bit."

The Cougars will travel to Herndon on Friday for a 7:30 p.m. tip-off.
