Oakton High's gymnastics team earned its highest placement this season taking second in their home meet Wednesday.
Lee High took first place in a competition that excluded bars because of problems with the equipment.
Oakton and Lee also faced Madison, Annandale, Langley and Hayfield.

Having only ever placed third or fourth heading into Wednesday's meet, the Oakton squad showed they are becoming a stronger unit as the season progresses.
Frankie Pipino, the Oakton head coach, believes her team has done well in smoothing out their routines and is happy with the camaraderie among the teammates.

"They're all really good friends and hang out outside of school," Pipino said. "They're always cheering each other on and are very supportive."
Each team member has stepped up to take on roles within the team that likely would not have been predicted early in the season, said Sam Miller, assistant coach.
"The girls have really taken on things they had previously said they wouldn't do, and we've been making it all work for the team," Miller said.
The Oakton gymnastics team will perform in two more competitions before competing in the Concorde District meet.
"There have been a couple injuries that have held us back through the season, but they should be back and healthy for districts," Pipino said. "We should surprise everybody at districts because they haven't seen us at full strength yet."
