LeMunyon Defeats Clingan in 67th Delegate Race

Eric Clingan's challenge of the one-term delegate comes up short

Del. (R) defeated (D) in his bid for re-election to the 67th Delegate District seat in Tuesday's election.

LeMunyon took 59.27 percent of the vote, while Clingan reined in 40.65 percent in a district that had 28.87 percent of its registered voters turn out.

LeMunyon won the seat after serving one term in the House of Delegates. Clingan, a first-time candidate for public office, challenged LeMunyon throughout the campaign about his conservative track record.

Though LeMunyon fell short of calling himself a Tea Party supporter, as Clingan called on him to do, he did not shy away from his support for legislation such as the Repeal Amendment, which would allow states to repeal any federal law or regulation.

"We proudly ran a race grounded firmly on Democratic principles. We made this race a referendum on the leadership of a Tea Party-supported delegate," Clingan said after the results came through for Tuesday's election. "The voters have spoken and I respect their decision. With that decision comes great responsibility and I fear great consequences. I wish Delegate LeMunyon all the best."
