I-66 Lane Closures And Delays Are Expected This Week As Roadwork Continues In Oakton Area
Expect delays on I-66 this week, as VDOT work crews raise beams for the new Jermantown Road Bridge near Oakton.
OAKTON, VA — Motorists traveling on I-66 in Fairfax County this week may want to seek an alternate route, as the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) continues working on its Transform 66 Outside the Beltway project.
Travelers can expect delays and traffic stoppages Monday through Friday during the overnight hours to allow work crews to install beams for the new, wider Jermantown Road bridge in Oakton.

Monday, Oct. 18
- I-66 West from Route 123 (Chain Bridge Road) to Jermantown Road: Westbound traffic will be reduced to a single lane from 10:30 p.m. to 5 a.m.
- I-66 East from Waples Mill Road to Jermantown Road: From 9:30 p.m. to 5 a.m., all lanes will be closed.
Tuesday, Oct. 19, through Friday, Oct. 22

- I-66 East from Waples Mill Road to Jermantown Road: Each night, traffic approaching Jermantown Road will be reduced to a single lane and diverted into the old eastbound lanes from 10 a.m. to 5 a.m. ( 9 a.m. on Saturday).
- I-66 East from Waples Mill Road to Jermantown Road: Each night, traffic approaching Jermantown Road will be reduced to a single lane and diverted into the old eastbound lanes from 10 a.m. to 5 a.m. ( 9 a.m. on Saturday).
- Jermantown Road at I-66: Traffic on Jermantown Road over I-66 will be reduced to a single lane from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. nightly. VDOT workers with flags will direct traffic.
As part of the Transform66.org project, the new, wider I-66 will include a sidewalk and bike lane in both directions, which will connect to area trails.
