5-Vehicle Crash On Capital Beltway Causes Fatality, 3 Injuries: Virginia State Police
Virginia State Police are investigating a pile-up crash that happened in stopped traffic on the Capital Beltway.

ALEXANDRIA, VA — A fatal five-vehicle crash happened on the Capital Beltway Tuesday evening, according to Virginia State Police.
The crash happened around 5:33 p.m. Tuesday in the thru-lanes of westbound I-495 near the 176-mile marker, which is the Telegraph Road exit. State police say a Lexus sedan was stopped in traffic when a Dodge Ram struck it in the right rear. The crash led the Lexus to hit the back of a Ford F-150 also stopped in traffic.
The crash caused the Dodge Ram to go airborne and hit the Ford F-150, a GMC Savana and a Nissan Rogue before stopping on its side.

A passenger in the Lexus, Lauren Johnson-Lavender, 69, of Massachusetts, died at the scene. Three other people were injured and taken to the hospital.
The crash remains under investigation, and charges are pending. No other immediate information was available from Virginia State Police.
