ACPS School Board OKs Changes to School Calendar

The changes affect both modified and traditional calendar schools.

The School Board for Alexandria City Public Schools has unanimously approved the superintendent's recommendation to change this year's school calendar to include more time for professional learning.

The changes mean there will be no school for students on the following days, respective of the traditional or modified calendar. They previously had been scheduled as half days for students.

  • December 12 will be a full day of professional learning for both modified and traditional calendar schools;
  • February 3 will be a full day of professional learning for modified calendar schools;
  • February 10 will be a full day of professional learning and elementary student-family conferences for our traditional calendar schools; and
  • May 14 will be a full day of professional learning for both modified and traditional calendar schools.

When ACPS officially issues the revised calendar, it will indicate that the February and May dates may be used for snow make up days, according to a note sent from the superintendent to school staff.
