Alexandria, Fairfax Continue Work on Repairing Holmes Run Sewage Break

Construction will begin this week and is expected to continue for about three months.

The City of Alexandria and Fairfax County are constructing interim repairs to the sanitary sewer pipes crossing Holmes Run near Paxton Street in response to the sanitary .

Construction will begin this week and will continue for approximately three months, according to the City of Alexandria. The temporary bypass pumps, located on the north and south sides of Holmes Run, will be removed due to interim repairs.

Construction work on the north side of Holmes Run will be completed by Fairfax County and will include the removal of several trees, installation of below ground structures and associated piping.  A portion of the bike trail on the north side of Brookvalley Park will be closed, and trail users will be detoured to Holmes Run Parkway.

Construction work on the south side of Holmes Run will be completed by Alexandria’s Department of Transportation and Environmental Services and will include the removal of several trees, installation of below ground structures and associated piping.

Permanent repairs are still in the design process for replacing sewer crossings.  Further construction for these permanent repairs is expected to begin over the next three months.
