Alexandria Gives Romney 67 Percent of Their Votes

Turnout of registered voters was about 5 percent, a slight improvement over the 3 percent trending in the earlier part of Tuesday.

The City of Alexandria unequivocally voted Tuesday for Mitt Romney over Ron Paul. The former Massachusetts governor and Texas congressman were the only two candidates on Virginia's Republican presidential primary ballot.

The city overall showed a 5 percent turnout, giving Romney 67.6 percent of the vote to Paul’s 32.4 percent. The city mirrored the state’s turnout of registered voters, which was also about 5 percent.

About 64 percent of voters in the 8th Congressional District, which includes Alexandria, voted for Romney with 36 percent casting their ballot for Paul.

In Precinct 102, , Old Towners cast 219 votes for Romney, or about 77 percent, to 64 votes for Paul, or 22.6 percent.

Voters at voted largely along the same margins as their City Hall peers by giving 211 votes to Romney and 72 votes to Paul.

Precinct 104, gave 66 percent, or 128 votes, to Romney and 34 percent, or 66 votes to Paul. Lee Center voters also gave 128 votes to Romney, but 59 to Paul.

Because President George W. Bush (R) went unchallenged in 2004, the last comparable GOP presidential primary race to this year's was in 2000 when Vice President Al Gore went unchallenged for the Democrats. Five Republican candidates, including Bush and John McCain, battled for the GOP nomination.

That year, Virginia saw a 17.28 percent turnout. Participation that year was highest in Virginia's 8th Congressional District and lowest in the state's 9th Congressional District.
