Kindergarten Registration Begins April 9

Local elementary schools are hosting open houses and school tours designed for parents of rising kindergarteners and students new to Alexandria City Public Schools.

An open house lasts one to two hours. Residents can find out which neighborhood school a child has been assigned by referring to the online Attendance Zone Locator.

ACPS also provides a list of open houses. will host an open house March 21 and on March 22 and April 19.

Kindergarten registration starts on April 9 and runs through June 15. All families are encouraged to register at their home school. This year, there are no options to chose a school via a lottery system.

If all classes in a particular school are filled, then there will be a lottery to determine which students will be moved to the closest school with space in that grade level. A statement from ACPS says that scenario is “not expected to happen but in order to maintain the small class size, that is the contingency plan.”
