Alexandria Police to Conduct DWI Crackdown

Motorists will be stopped this weekend to assure their abilities to drive are not impaired by drugs or alcohol.

Alexandria police will conduct a Drive While Intoxicated crackdown to deter and apprehend drunk drivers from 8 p.m. Saturday, June 22 to 6 a.m. Sunday, June 23.

Motorists will be stopped and drivers will be checked to assure their abilities to drive are not impaired by drugs or alcohol.

The maximum penalty in Virginia for a first-time conviction for driving under the influence is 12 months in jail, a $2,500 fine and a 12-month suspension of driving privileges.

In addition, there are mandatory jail terms associated with DWI offenses depending upon the blood alcohol content of the driver.
