Alexandria Under Flood Watch, Sandbags Available

Flood watch begins at 6 p.m. Wednesday night. City offers sandbags beginning at 2 p.m.

A flood watch has been issued for the City of Alexandria beginning at 6 p.m. Wednesday and ending Thursday evening.

Periods of moderate to heavy rainfall will move into the region late Wednesday and continue through Thursday. Up to three inches of rain is possible by Thursday evening.

The forecasted rainfall amounts likely will cause flooding in low-lying areas, according to the city. High tides are expected at 11:15 a.m. and 11:55 p.m. on Thursday.

The city is making sandbags available for homes and businesses beginning at 2 p.m. Wednesday. The city has parked a trailer truck loaded with sandbags at King and Lee streets. Those wishing to receive city sandbags are asked to bring proof of residency, such as a current driver’s license or utility bill.
