Donations Top $2.9 Million On Alexandria's Day Of Giving: See Top Nonprofit Recipients

Donors raised more than $2.9 million for nearly 200 nonprofits during the latest Spring2Action organized by ACT for Alexandria.

ALEXANDRIA, VA — Alexandria nonprofits got a $2.9 million boost during the 15th annual Spring2Action organized by ACT for Alexandria.

More than $2.9 million collectively was raised during Spring2Action, which is Alexandria's day of giving. There were 193 nonprofits receiving contributions from 7,422 donors.

"We exceeded our $2.5 million goal, and gifts are still coming in," ACT for Alexandria said on social media after Wednesday's event. "Your generosity means that 193 local nonprofits now have the resources to provide critical services, support families, expand educational opportunities, and so much more."

Carpenter's Shelter, which runs homeless shelters in Alexandria, was the top recipient with $130,875 in donations. The organization has its main shelter at 930 N Henry Street with 10 permanent supportive housing units and affordable housing community Bloom on site. The organization took over the Alexandria Community Shelter at 2355-B, Mill Road in late 2023, making it the primary emergency shelter operator in the city. The nonprofit serves over 900 children, women and men experiencing homelessness each year.

King Street Cats was the organization with the most donors — 387 — from Spring2Action. The volunteer-run no-kill cat rescue received $51,479 in donations. In 2023, the organization placed more than 300 kittens and cats in forever homes.

The top 10 recipients of Spring2Action were:

7. Alexandria Tutoring Consortium, $70,665, 236 donors

8. Friends of Guest House, $68,552, 123 donors

9. Alexandria Seaport Foundation, $63,310, 112 donors

10. Center for Alexandria's Children, $61,705, 75 donors

Some organizations won bonus prizes for milestones like most donations or most donors for small, medium and large-sized organizations, as well as randomly-drawn prizes.
