City Finds Former General Services Deputy Had Proper Conduct

Internal audit finds former Deputy Director of General Services Timothy Wanamaker did not act inappropriately when he was a city employee.

City of Alexandria has found no improper conduct by its former deputy director of General Services who left his job with the city after pleading guilty to federal charges relating to his prior employment with the City of Buffalo.

After in November, Alexandria conducted an internal audit to review Wanamaker’s city-related financial and other transactions.

“We found no evidence that the deputy director circumvented established city procedures with regard to collection and deposit of city monies, city payments, personnel travel, use of city purchase card and fuel card, time and attendance and project management,” according to a Dec. 20 memo from City Manager Rashad Young.

The city did not issue Wanamaker a purchase card or gas card related to his duties so there was no chance of impropriety there. Additionally, the city did not find any unusual payroll activity during his employment from August 2010 to November 2011.

The projects Wanamaker primarily participated in were overseeing the city’s contract with the Animal Welfare League of Alexandria, the vendor cart program, management of the program, as administrative staff to the Surplus Real Estate Workgroup and a liaison on a committee overseeing city fleet vehicles.
