Clothing Store Anthropologie to Open in Old Town Alexandria

Anthropologie to move into store vacated by J.J.'s Hallmark

Anthropologie, a women's boutique and accessories store that also sells some home decor items, is moving to King Street.

It will take over the spot recently vacated by J.J.'s Hallmark Shop at 610 King.

Alexandria's Board of Architectural Review on Wednesday considered storefront alterations and signage for the shop and voted 7-0 to allow the store to proceed.

“We are thrilled that Anthropologie is moving into the heart of the Old Town shopping district," said Stephanie Landrum of the Alexandria Economic Development Partnership. "They will join and compliment our growing inventory of women’s clothing and accessory stores, and add to the buzz created by the members of the Old Town Boutique District over the past two years.”

Anthropologie's application to the city, submitted by parent firm Urban Outfitters, shows that the firm plans to make significant renovations to the historic building. It will install an elevator, add heating and air conditioning units on the rooftop and put in new windows, among many other things.
