Updated: Free Ice Cream at Ben & Jerry's Tuesday in Old Town Alexandria
Donations for the Northern Virginia Coalition are being accepted at the free cone event on S. Union St.
ice cream shop at 103 S. Union St. is offering free ice cream cones until 8 p.m. on Tuesday.
Patrons will be greeted at the door by Renee Eder, a representative of the Northern Virginia Coalition, a group known as Novaco with offices in Old Town Alexandria and Fairfax that helps victims of domestic abuse.
The event is run by Ben & Jerry's but the staff on Tuesday are volunteers from or working on behalf of Novaco.

Collin Lieberg stopped by this afternoon to enjoy a cone of triple carmel chunk. And why did he stop by? For the simple reason, "I like ice cream."
Iman Kassim, Johanna Rivas and Nancy Rivas from a Best Buy electronics store in Lake Fairfax, Va., were on hand to scoop up the ice cream as volunteers for Novaco.

"We do a lot of community service events," said Kassim. "We like people to know we are not just an organization but a part of the community."
Eder said her organization did a similar event two years ago requesting donations at three Ben & Jerry's locations concurrently and said her group's efforts brought Novaco $2,500.
