Masonic Memorial Lit in Honor of Community Lodgings

Memorial will be illuminated Oct. 20 to honor nonprofit's after school programs.

The George Washington Masonic Memorial will be illuminated on Oct. 20 in honor of Alexandria-based Community Lodgings' afterschool programs for homeless and low-income children.

This coincides with Afterschool Alliance’s “Lights On Afterschool” celebration, an annual event recognizing afterschool programs throughout the nation. The Masonic Memorial joins the list of other participating landmarks such as the Empire State Building and Mount Rushmore that have worked with Afterschool Alliance to honor afterschool programs.

Community Lodgings is also holding an open house from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Oct. 20 at its Fifer Family Learning Center, located at 607 Notabene Drive.

Guests will learn how bilingual staff members work with children and families to increase academic achievement, literacy, English proficiency, computer skills, parent involvement, and more.
