Nando's Applies to Open Restaurant on King St.
Restaurant, known for its Peruvian-style chicken, would move into spot currently occupied by Popeyes.

Nando’s restaurant, known for its Portugese-style grilled chicken, is angling to open a restaurant on King St.
The restaurant would open at 702-704 King St., which is currently occupied by a Popeyes. Nando’s opened its first restaurant nearby in Washington, D.C., in July 2008 and Nando’s Restaurant Group of 7th St., NW, will own the Alexandria location.
"The city is very excited about this application," said Barbara Ross of the Planning and Zoning Department. "It's a popular, modern, quick service restaurant."
According to the application filed with the city, Nando’s proposes to house 144 seats for diners.
About 10 to 12 employees would be needed to staff the restaurant, which will serve chicken in platters, sandwiches and wraps along with side dishes like salads.
Nando's is proposing to sell beer, wine and sangria, which will be subject to city approval.
Alexandria's Planning Commission is scheduled to consider the application on Mar. 8.
