As New Alexandria Restaurant Prepares to Open, Property Manager Puts Performers, Skateboarders On Notice
Signs are being posted near new waterfront eatery set to open to let performers, skateboarders know they need to move to public spaces.
ALEXANDRIA, VA -- Anyone who has wandered down to Alexandria's waterfront area just off of King and Union streets is likely familiar with performers who set up shop just outside the Torpedo Factory and skateboarders who zip through crowds near the steps that lead to the marina.
As Vola's Dockside Bar & Grill prepares to open at that corner, the company that manages the property is putting musicians and skateboarders and others on notice to clear the area and move to public space a few yards away.
A sign has been posted letting them know to keep the area open:

The sign reads: "This area is private property. In interest of safety and respect for our neighbors, NO skateboarding, music, sales or similar activities are allowed. Thank You Realco Management"
The area has long been a space where tourists and residents gather to hear the "water glass man." A spokesman for the property management company said Tuesday that the water glass man is still welcome to play in the area and that they are in direct communication with him about the change and that everyone is fine with the new arrangement.

You'll still be able to see the water glass man perform, but it will likely be just a few yards away through the breezeway and to the left, where the private property becomes public property, the spokesman said.
Here's a video of one of his performances posted to YouTube by dcdatagirl:
