Old Town Farmers' Market To Relocate In 2026 During City Hall Renovations
The farmers market will get a new temporary location as renovations start at the City Hall complex.

ALEXANDRIA, VA — The renovation of Alexandria City Hall and Market Square will prompt the relocation of the Old Town Farmers' Market in January 2026.
The farmers market, which runs on Saturdays from 7 a.m. to 12 p.m. year round, will join other city services relocating during the renovation project. The new location will be the 100 block of North Royal Street and the courtyard at Tavern Square. Shoppers will continue to find more than 70 vendors selling local produce, baked goods, flowers, meats, dairy and specialty items.
An exact opening date for the temporary location will be announced at a later time.

The Market Square Garage will also be closed during the renovation project. Shoppers are encouraged to use other nearby parking options.
The City Hall and Market Square renovation is expected to take two to three years. The Old Town Farmers' Market will move back to Market Square after the project concludes.

Market Square dates back to just after Alexandria's 1749 founding. The Old Town Farmers' Market is considered the oldest farmers market in the nation continuously hosted at the same site. According to the city, George Washington even directed produce from his Mount Vernon estate be sold at the market.
