Victim Attacked Overnight in Alexandria

  • The Alexandria Police Department is investigating a "felonious assault" that occurred overnight in the 1200 block of Wythe Street (see map below). The victim was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Police sent out an alert about the incident at about 3 a.m. Thursday.

Austin Grill to Close on King Street

  • Say "adios" to Austin Grill, a longtime go-to spot for Tex-Mex and Mason Jar margaritas on King Street in Alexandria. The restaurant will close its doors for good May 30, according to employees. The restaurant will undergo a transformation and reopen as Southern-inspired HenQuarter.

Injured Alexandria Cyclist Improving

  • Ryan Brown, the Alexandria cyclist who was seriously injured in a recent crash while riding home from work appears to be improving, according to a recent post from the family, from their YouCaring page. Friends and family are rallying around Ryan Brown, father of two MacArthur students and a resident of the Taylor Run neighborhood.

The Majestic to Reopen Tuesday with New Menu, New Look

  • There's a new opulent look to The Majestic restaurant, reopening Tuesday at 911 King St., after an eight-week renovation. The plush jewel-toned fabrics, cozy booths, old-fashioned tin ceiling and intimate lighting harks back to an earlier time, with hints of the Orient Express or an art deco movie palace from days gone by.

Armed Assault Saturday Night in Alexandria

  • A victim was sent to the hospital Saturday night in Alexandria after he or she was assaulted by an armed suspect, according to police. There was no word from police on the condition of the victim. Police are investigating what they are calling the "felonious assault," which usually means the suspect was armed with something like a gun or a knife.
