Pipeline Upgrade Work Continues in Old Town

New water main expected to enhance water quality and improve service reliability.

Virginia American Water is working through the second phase of a water main upgrade on Henry Street in Old Town.

The work, which began June 3, involves replacing 4-, 6- and 8-inch pipelines along Henry Street between Wythe and Madison streets with a new, 12-inch water main.

The first phase of the project involved replacement of the water main on Henry Street, from Duke Street to Prince Street.

The new water main will enhance water quality, improve service reliability and increase water flow for fire service. The total cost of the water system improvements is approximately $1.4 million, according to a press release from Virginia American Water.

The project was expected to be completed five weeks after the start date.
