Police Investigating Possible Shots Fired Sunday Night in West End Alexandria

Neighbors say they heard what sounded like gun shots late Sunday night near Dora Kelley Nature Park in Alexandria.

ALEXANDRIA, VA -- Alexandria Police are investigating a possible weapons violation Sunday night in or around Dora Kelley Nature Park in Alexandria's West End, a police department spokeswoman said Monday.

According to residents who live in the area, about a half-dozen police cars responded late Sunday night to a call from residents for what sounded like gun shots.

Police were on the scene for about an hour Sunday night in unseasonably chilly temperatures in the 40s around 11 p.m., in the area of N. Tracy and N. Chambliss streets (see map below).

Both streets dead end at Dora Kelley Nature Park.

"I've lived here 37 years, and this is the first time I've heard gunshots," said a woman who lives in the area.

The woman said she heard a series of what sounded like two or three rounds of about four gun shots at a time.

No arrests or charges were made Sunday night, according to the police department spokeswoman. No information was available about the incident on RaidsOnline.com.
