Here's how they tell the story:
In 1916, Virginia’s prohibition law became effective. According to local legend, Robert Downham, then-owner of the Lee-Fendall House and local liquor wholesaler, lost his license after news spread around Alexandria of his entertaining President Woodrow Wilson with lavish amounts of alcohol at a dinner party.

One hundred years later, the Lee-Fendall House is commemorating the occasion with a Prohibition party in their garden. Enjoy a glass (or two) of bubbly, enjoy live jazz music, win something in a silent auction and celebrate the Lee-Fendall’s history.
The proceeds from this event will go to restore the Lee-Fendall House chimney, which is in severe danger of collapsing and damaging other parts of the property.
"We are hoping that by raising our glasses, we will be able to raise the chimney and preserve the Lee-Fendall House!" organizers said on the historic home's Facebook page.
The party takes place Saturday, May 21 from 7-10 p.m. Tickets are $50 for general admission; $75 for a VIP reception at 6 p.m. (Get a private tour of the museum, mingle with President Wilson and Mr. Downham, and enjoy some "bathtub gin.")
The attire: Creative cocktail and period clothing is encouraged. Tickets are available online at www.leefendallhouse.org NOTE: All guests must be 21 years or older to attend.
