New Residential + Retail Building Proposed for Strand Street in Old Town Alexandria

The Board of Architectural Review will review the plans next month. IDI proposes 16 residentual units and retail on street level.

ALEXANDRIA, VA -- IDI Virginia Holdings LC of Arlington has submitted plans to the City's Board of Architectural Review for the construction of a 62,000 square-foot building with 16 residential units and ground-floor retail at 211 Strand St. in Old Town Alexandria.

Alexandria Board of Architectural Review is slated to hold a work session to review the plans Sept. 7.

IDI is proposing to add a third floor at 205 Strand St., as well as modify the building, to add more residential units there.

The proposed project would line up next door to Chadwick's restaurant at 203 Strand, which will "remain unchanged," the proposal states.

IDI Group's portfolio in Alexandria includes Carlyle Towers, Montebello and Porto Vecchio.

The Strand buildings are owned by Simpson Properties. The project is designed by John Rust of Rust Orling Architecture in Alexandria.
